Ice Melt

For this album package redesign, I drew inspiration from the band’s experimental approach to creating and recording the album. In several interviews, they described unconventional techniques of sound production, like covering a microphone with a condom and submerging it in water! I aimed to reflect this experimental spirit in my redesign.

Using a high-quality scanner, I dragged strings of colorful glass beads across the scanner hundreds of times, producing a series of indescribable, abstract images. After careful selection, I used my chosen images for the gatefold exterior and vinyl stickers. While working on these scans, I accidentally captured the tag from the glass bead strings, which inspired the project’s warped, melting typography that can be found throughout.

For the gatefold interior, I incorporated the hauntingly beautiful Pre-Raphaelite painting "The Lady of Shalott." By running the image through the scanner, I created a distorted effect that echoes the album’s glitchy sound.
